Weaving (my) FREO Space has been shortlisted in #MyFreoStory video competition by the City of Fremantle.
This video work by the Pixels+Fibre project, suggests an alternative time-space dimension using time lapse video and public locations as the performative space. The process of artist Fiona Gavino weaving herself into her own work in public places creates a tangible interstice that restructures the conventional and devises free areas of expression. The film was shot in the project’s hometown of Fremantle. Specific sites were chosen for their ability to evoke a sense of spatial interstice whilst Gavino’s filmed performance also creates a chink in the everyday experience of those who just happen to be passing by.
The work also contextualises aspects of cultural, social and environmental ideas through the use of cross-disciplinary and cross cultural art practices that marry the digital with the traditional.
